Tim Schelfe FASID, CID
Through my journey, I have been fortunate to learn from many mentors, designers, and craftsmen. Their skill and mentorship taught me to create physical placemaking and sculpt unique spaces to live, work, and play. Over four decades, I’ve developed a deep understanding of design excellence, the business of design, and the art of selling design. I believe my impact on our profession is three-fold: my diverse body of work, my diligence for professionalism, and my decades of volunteering and directly engaging the next generation of interior designers. My calling was not meant for just me. I realized I can be an influence, inspire others, and represent what it means to be a professional interior designer, establishing a lasting, positive impact for generations to come.
I have successfully designed and delivered hundreds of diverse projects throughout my career, from single-family homes for residential builders to multifamily communities of refuge and comfort for residential clients. I have planned commercial environments providing places to live, work, play, and thrive, as well as curated thematic spaces for clubhouses, amenities, and restaurants. Lastly, I’ve created successful placemaking for diverse demographics with numerous multifamily developers. My team’s design solutions required a high level of creativity within frugal budgets, as well as strong collaboration, management, and deliverables. In a collaboration with architects, engineers, and developers, I’ve successfully translated the client’s vision into a positive return, experientially and financially.
Striving to elevate the profession of interior design within the architecture, engineering, and

construction industry has always been top of mind. With a strong commitment to professionalism, I believe I have made a lasting impact on generations of architects, engineers, contractors, and fellow interior designers by leading by example and raising awareness of the interior design profession. I have elevated my colleagues’ understanding, respect, and collaborative engagement, creating successful projects and partnerships. My drive to be an equal has given me the opportunity to lead and direct numerous projects and design colleagues while upholding design excellence.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, I have proudly served our profession for three decades through volunteering with ASID in numerous committees and leadership roles, both locally and nationally, proudly culminating in my serving as Chair of our ASID National Board. I used my unique career to lead, inspire, and show others how to impact people's lives every day. As Chair, I worked to ensure that all interior designers were represented equally—not just those in large firms with global offices and international projects, but also designers with small businesses who work locally and are highly respected in their communities. I personalized and humanized our experiences for the National Board and frequently reminded them who we are as a community of designers and where our roots and foundation as a professional organization lie.
As a design professional, I believe our greatest gift is to inspire others through our work in the built environment by continually demonstrating the positive impact of the profession of interior design.
